Zucchini bread.

Go outside while I make Zucchini bread!

After all, what else where we going to do with it?

It was autumn,

And zucchini paraded our garden.

Crisp, mouldering orange,

Piled up into mountains.

We spent all the golden day

Cleaning out the gutters,

Our little red wagon

Piled high with our spoils.

Dad and his school books are home!

Hurry and eat your soup!

Hurry! I want to show him!

Daddy’s home!

He’d launch us like rockets,

Into our day’s wages of leaves.

Buried deep, with rot wafted in our nostrils.

Mom comes out too,

And soon it’s a leaf fight.

They’re caught in my shirt,

Tickling and scratching and itching.

It soon all ends

With zucchini bread and sunsets.
